Interview follow-up guide
How to Write a Useful Post-Interview Follow-Up Email
A follow-up should help the interviewer evaluate you, not restate everything you already said. Keep it short enough to read quickly.
Start with a specific reference
Mention the interview or one question clearly. This confirms context without adding an unnecessary subject line.
Add only missing evidence
Choose one detail that would improve the evaluation: a metric you can now confirm, a short clarification of your ownership, or a link to work you were asked about. Do not send a new essay or apologize for a weak answer.
Keep the structure compact
- One sentence of thanks and context.
- One sentence with the useful addition.
- One sentence confirming interest and next steps.
Send at the right time
Send within one business day unless the interviewer gave a different instruction. Proofread names, numbers, and links. A concise message is more likely to be read alongside a busy interview schedule.
